On Wednesday, 14 January 2025, staff of Government High School Mbonjo met in the staff room for a pedagogic workshop that began at 12 noon and ended at 2 pm. The session opened with a prayer, committing the work of the school and the success of its learners into God’s hands. A group photograph was taken at the end of the workshop to mark the occasion.
The workshop focused on the strengthening of teaching through digital tools and proper academic monitoring. The key message of the day was delivered by the Regional Delegate for the South West Region, Buea, and presented to staff by the Principal. Special emphasis was placed on the correct filling of teachers’ logbooks as a professional duty that ensures accountability and continuity of learning.
Staff were introduced to the Digital Logbook System, a new method of recording lessons that will come into use very soon. The Ministry of Secondary Education in Yaounde will monitor this system directly once it goes live. For now, teachers will continue with the paper logbook, but they were told to be ready for the immediate transition when the digital platform is activated. The new system will allow closer follow up of lesson delivery and greater accountability across all schools.
Although teaching materials are not yet on the school website, teachers were informed that all departments must submit their lesson notes, assignments, and other resources through the Computer Science Department. These materials will then be uploaded so that students can access them using their parents’ phones while at home or during holidays.
To support digital teaching, free time has been allocated for teachers to use the Multimedia Laboratory for the preparation and delivery of online lessons. There was also a live demonstration of the digital board recently provided by the Minister of Secondary Education. Teachers were shown how it can be used to present lessons, write on the screen, and save content for future use.
The administration also presented the staff appointed to supervise and guide digital learning in the school. Their roles are as follows:
Coordinator: Mrs. Jeff Bertha, Vice Principal
Technical Supervision: Mr. Ngwana Joshua
Counselling: Mrs. Enow Bisong Njonje
Discipline: Mr. Walters
These officers will ensure that digital lessons are well planned, properly delivered, and that students remain focused and supported.
A session was also devoted to student evaluation. Teachers were guided on the best ways to assess learners in digital lessons, with emphasis on fairness, clarity, and encouragement. Staff were reminded that every student must be treated with dignity and that the guidance and counselling unit is always available to support learners facing difficulties.
The workshop closed with a shared sense of purpose. With the introduction of digital tools, direct monitoring by the Ministry, and a clear support structure within the school, GHS Mbonjo is now better positioned to deliver quality education that reaches students both in school and at home.
